Q. What does Surge Protection do?
A. It covers your electronics and electric appliances that are inside your home and valued at $100 or more if they are damaged by an electrical surge.
Q. Is this a lightning protection system?
A. Surge Protection doesn’t prevent lightning surges, but it does provide repair and/or reimbursement protection for your covered electronics and electric appliances at your home should lightning damage them. It also covers surges that occur because of other events, such as appliance cycling and transformer problems.
Q. Does anything need to be installed in my home or on my meter?
A. No equipment is required. Surge Protection is a warranty plan to protect your household budget from unplanned expenses that may result from an electrical surge in your home.
Q. I rent my home. Can I enroll in Surge Protection?
Yes. Renters and homeowners are both eligible for Surge Protection.
Q: Are mobile phones covered?
A: If you are using the official charger that came with the phone and it is damaged by a surge while plugged in, you will be covered.
Q: How long do I have to notify your company about surge damage?
A: You must inform us and have all your required claim paperwork submitted within 30 days of the incident.
Q: How do I know if I’ve had damage from a surge?
A: You must hire your own service provider who is a certified electrician to determine if damage to your electronics was caused by a surge event.
Q: Does surge protection cover my electrical systems?
A: No. This plan does not cover your electrical systems. For more information as to what is and isn’t covered, please refer to your customer agreement.
Q: Are relatives’ or friends’ appliances (phones, game consoles, laptops, etc.) covered by this protection plan?
A: No. All damaged items must belong to you. The items also cannot be any rented items.
Q: Are all electrical products covered under this plan?
A: We will reimburse for repair or replacement of any electrical product that has a value of $100 or more.
Q: Are major appliances covered under this protection plan?
A: Yes. However, all damaged items must be located inside of your home. Outside appliances, such as pool filters and central air conditioners are not covered.
